http://jurnal.idebahasa.or.id/index.php/Idebahasa/article/view/322

Muhoiriah MuhoiriahMaryam Jameelah Tatu Siti Rohbiah

http://jurnal.idebahasa.or.id/index.php/Idebahasa/article/view/367

This phonological research discusses the connected speech in spoken English. The purpose of this study is to describe the patterns of connected speech in American English and British English. The data were collected by using observation method and the technique used is note-taking. Then, the data were analyzed by using phonetic articulatory identity method. The theory used Lass’ theory related to the pronunciation corresponding to connected speech. Furthermore, the results of data analysis were presented by using descriptive narrative. The results of the study might be proposed to the important material for English Pronunciation course. The finding reveals that the connected speech processes in American English are not always the same as those in British English. The connected speech process in British English is more complicated than it in American English. However, both Englishes apply linking in terms of catenation, liaison, and gemination, elision and coalescence, and assimilation. There is a phenomenon of connected speech which is not part of any theory; [sɪŋɡɔːwɪˈtɜːn] and [ʧeɪn-j-ɛniˈmɔː].
Ambalegin AmbaleginAfriana Afriana

http://jurnal.idebahasa.or.id/index.php/Idebahasa/article/view/337

Knowledge management is an activity carried out by teachers in educational institutions to organise, share, and implement knowledge so that it can be utilised for institutional advancement. This activity includes identifying, developing, sharing, applying, and disseminating knowledge. The aim of this research is to review on how teachers’ knowledge management practices contribute to individual performance and school development. The research employed a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a qualitative descriptive design and was carried out systematically by applying PRISMA's guidelines for analysing and summarising systematic reviews. On the basis systematic search of Google Scholar database, there were 45 articles were eligible and 6 articles were included. The review also highlights that the discussion of knowledge management in education draws on several theoretical fields, including knowledge creation theory (Nonaka & Takeuchi). The findings indicate and consistently show that effective knowledge management enhances teachers’ capacity to innovate, collaborate, and adapt to change, which in turn strengthens teaching strategies, professional competence, and overall work performance.
Elyza MartiariniEva Nurul Candra

http://jurnal.idebahasa.or.id/index.php/Idebahasa/article/view/343

Through Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis or CDA approach, the current research analyzes how words and sentences are used in the film Crash Out. This research aims to highlight three areas of analysis, namely textual dimensions, discourse practices, and social practices, which are used in this qualitative descriptive research. Direct cinema analysis and voice transcriptions containing temporal, symbolic, and ideological content were used to gather data. In addition to information gathering, language aspects such as diction, coherence, irony, and pauses in speech were also observed. The findings illustrated how language was used to build narrative tension, demonstrate control over power, and change the way time was perceived in the film Crash Out. The main character was supported by a symbolic power structure constructed through linguistic features such as temporal repetition and time metaphors. Besides being a tool for interpersonal interaction, language functions as a control mechanism, a delay mechanism, and a technique for framing reality. In the film Crash Out, the power of words is crucial in creating complex social, political, and psychological connotations, based on research findings.
Agustina RamadhiantiYulia SofianiSugianti Somba

http://jurnal.idebahasa.or.id/index.php/Idebahasa/article/view/329

The purpose of this qualitative descriptive research was to identify the expressive illocutionary acts and the functions theorized by Searle & Vanderveken and Leech in film “Captain America the First Avenger”. An observational method was used in this study's data collection process, which involved watching the film. Since it was not a direct participant in the conversation, practical technique used in this research was non-participant technique. This study employed data reduction to reduce redundancy in data analysis and the pragmatic identity method in the equalizing procedure. In terms of how the research findings were presented, it used an informal method that was connected to the words and sentences used to describe the findings. Thirteen expressive illocutionary acts were found. The actions include welcome, lament, praise, boast, protest, condole, apologize, congratulate, thank, complain, complement, deplore, and greet. The act of complain was the dominant act because the characters frequently display sentiments of unease, melancholy, and disappointment to their conversation partners. The research served four functions, thus are convivial, collaborative, competitive, and conflictive. Therefore, the characters' most common function was convivial. The reason is that the things they said had social goals in them, such as saying hello, welcoming, thanking, and celebrating.
Monica HeraldineAmbalegin Ambalegin

http://jurnal.idebahasa.or.id/index.php/Idebahasa/article/view/360

Listening comprehension is one of the essential skills tested in the TOEFL Paper-Based Test (PBT), and the Mini Talks section is often considered the most challenging. Students must concentrate on fast-paced monologues containing dense information and answer several questions at once. Observations and interviews revealed that many students failed to capture key details, lacked strategies to filter important information, and struggled to handle multiple questions within a short time. Based on these problems, this study aimed to describe the students’ listening ability and identify the difficulties they faced when answering Mini Talks questions in the TOEFL PBT. This study used a descriptive quantitative method. The participants were 16 eighth-semester students of the English Education Department at Universitas Mahaputra Muhammad Yamin, Solok, in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using a listening test focusing on the Mini Talks section, and the students’ scores were analyzed to determine their average performance and the easiest and most difficult question types. The results showed that the students’ average score in the Mini Talks section was 47.7, categorized as “fair.” The easiest question type was purpose (68.8%), while the most difficult was attitude and opinion (34.4%). The findings indicate that students had the most difficulty interpreting tone, making inferences, and identifying key information from audio played only once. This study suggests the need for more targeted listening practice and effective teaching strategies to improve students’ performance in the TOEFL PBT listening section.
Aidil Fitra AmandaFitri HandayaniRisza Dwiputri
